She we lches sick of tax examining and wanted to do something different. She hired The Resume distribution policy to help her make a career change within the federal government. Susans writer interviewed her and was able to determine a set of transferrable skills for other types of positions. One of the first class exercises was to find a job announcement in order to analyze keywords, KSAs and questionnaires. Bob exclaimed in class, Ive been waiting for this announcement for a year The announcement was for Resilience Specialist and there were four announcements for four bases We jumped on the announcement and his resume and did a close match between his resume experience and the announcement. He was already doing Resilience projects in his current position. We featured his Resilience projects and experience on his resume. RESULTS HIRED GS 12, job of his dreamsSenior Executive tafelgeschirr SR. EXECUTIVE FINALLY GOT QRB APPROVAL AFTER THREE ROUND S FOR DOD POSITIONIn July 2013, Mark, a repeat client from 2010, asked The Resume Place to help write the application for his dream job, a critical Senior Executive tafelgeschirr position at the Deputy Assistant Secretary level at the Defense Department. We drafted a five-page SES resume with all the narratives for this application. Mark made the Best Qualified list, was referred to the Hiring Manager, and received an interview. In October 2013, Mark was asked to provide a full set of traditional Executive Core Qualification narratives for this position. The Resume Place expanded his 5-page executive resume to a full 10-page ECQ resume, ensuring that the narratives met highly demanding agency-specific ERB requirements. Finally, she found out about the PPP-S list for military spouses through a webinar that Kathryn recorded with Bobby Winn who is the Director of the Priority Placement Program for Spouses for DOD. She went to her HRO specialist in Norfolk and submitted her resume for grading. She found that her resume did not grade well and she listed to a few more of Kathryns webinars and she rewrote her federal resume again. She went back to the HRO to get re-graded for her federal resume. RESULTS HIRED into a GS 11 position in Norfolk, Virginia as a Human Resources Specialist.CHIEF, FLEET FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER DIRECTOR, GS-13, NAPLES, ITALY HAS TO GO HOME FOR 5 YEAR RULECynthia had been in Naples for more than 5 years. It was time to come back to the US. Its very challenging to relocate back to the US at that grade level, much less get a promotion. Her resume was very specialized for Europe and South Africa family readiness and transition programs. We edited her resume to a neat 5-page leadership resume, added her BEST accomplishments, and featured program management and improvements. RESULTS HIRED (after only 6 applications) into an important DOD GS 14 military transition program at headquarters, Pentagon. She will be able to contribute her leadership and successes into the new program for Navy-wide critical programs.12 OUT OF 24 NAVY SAILORS LANDED QUALITY GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR AND GOVERNMENT JOBSIn 2012, The Resume Place landed a contract to write 44 resumes for NSA Bahrain Fleet Family Support Center. Emily and Kathryn Troutman traveled to Bahrain to teach nine two-hour classes to 44 sailors who were leaving the Navy for various reasons, including ERB. We tau ght them USAJOBS navigation techniques and the Ten Steps to a Federal Job. Then the sailors submitted their resume drafts to our resume writing team for writing, focusing and development for USAJOBS. Out of the 44 sailors, we have followed up successfully with 24. 12 of the 24 were hired into new career positions within 4 months of the completion of our resumes. 50% of our responding sailors are hired into quality career positions with career potential, benefits and training. We believe that our training and careful, targeted writing of the resumes resulted in this success for the Navy Sailors.USMC WOUNDED WARRIOR REGIMENT EAST TRANSITION COUNSELORS ARE TRAINED IN CERTIFIED FEDERAL JOB SEARCH TRAINER PROGRAMIn December of 2013, six of the USMC Wounded Warrior Regiment counselors were trained in the Ten Steps to a Federal Job method and Federal Resume Writing and USAJOBS application systems. RESULT As a result of this training, a format has been devised for Wounded Warriors in Transi tion to add their transition time into their resumes, so that the physical therapy, medical care and transitioning training are covered effectively in the resume. The Wounded Warriors are applying for internships to restart their careers and positions with companies and agencies seeking to provide new career opportunities for Wounded Warriors. This new format will be used for all USMC Wounded Warrior Regiments and hopefully increase confidence, morale and result in JOBS and new careers for Wounded Warriors.Private Industry to FederalMINISTER SEEKING CAREER CHANGE LANDS A GS-11 PROGAM ANALYST POSITIONDaniels work history was varied, with experience in ministry, personal finance, and mechanics. He wanted a federal job for stability and benefits but was unable to navigate the federal HR process, with most of his applications getting non-referred. One of our writers consulted with Daniel and helped him develop a focused job search strategy in addition to a targeted federal resume. Des pite his varied work history, emphasis was placed on his specific skills particularly his ability to lead people, effectuate organizational change, and analyze programs and work activities. The resume trick that got her hired was her Curriculum Design projects we added detailed descriptions of her online, distance learning curriculum projects and they met the match for a VA position. RESULTS HIRED as a GS 13, Curriculum Design Specialist, VA Hospitals This is the job of her dreams with accommodations as needed for her up-and-down illnessStudent to FederalLANDED GS 9/12 MECHANICAL ENGINEERING POSITION FOR NEW GRADPhillips mother wrote to The Resume Place to help her son get a federal job. Phillip held three degrees, including a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. He had been trying to obtain a federal job for more than a year and was unemployed and living at home. Once the Resume Place started working with Phillip, we discovered that one of his biggest problems was that he was deflating his questionnaire responses. After redrafting his resume and coaching Phillip on how to read and respond to the questionnaires, his next application was rated as Best Qualified and Referred. Even better, he received an interview and was hired as a GS-9/11/12 Mechanical Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of En gineers.Salary NegotiationsEXECUTIVE SALARY NEGOTIATIONS $45K IMPROVEMENTJulie received a job offer from the SEC with a base salary of $85k. The announcement indicated a pay range from $85k to $130k. Because of her background and qualifications, Julie believed that she warranted a higher salary and she hired The Resume Place to help negotiate her hiring package. After reviewing her background, Kathryn Troutman coached Julie on how to argue for a higher salary including justifying the request based on superior qualifications for the position. She also received coaching on negotiating a telework plan.
